UPI fraud: what to do next
If you lost money through a suspicious UPI transaction, contact your bank and call 1930 promptly. Preserve the transaction reference and report the incident on cybercrime.gov.in.
Contact your bank, not the person offering a refund
Open the official banking app, use the number on your card, or visit the bank’s official website. Report the transaction and ask how to secure the account and raise a dispute. Do not make another payment because someone says it will release a refund.
Keep the UPI transaction evidence
Save the transaction ID or UTR, date, amount, recipient details shown in the app, screenshots and the conversation connected to the payment. Keep original records. Sakshya does not need you to upload any of these details.
Report the loss through official channels
Call 1930 for financial cyber fraud and follow the instructions provided. Submit the relevant complaint on cybercrime.gov.in and keep the acknowledgement. Ask your bank for its complaint reference as well.
Protect your account from further misuse
Never share a UPI PIN, banking password or OTP. If someone asked you to install an app or allow remote access, stop following their instructions and use a trusted device to contact your bank. Ask a trusted technical professional for help securing a potentially compromised device.
Can a UPI payment always be reversed?
No. Sakshya cannot reverse transactions or guarantee a refund. Your bank and the relevant authorities can explain the process that applies to your case. Acting quickly and keeping clear records can help them assess the incident.
